# Language

> Choose the language or multilingual behavior your Vida Agent should use.

Language settings tell your Agent which speech it should listen for and how it should respond.

## Choose a language

Open **Edit Agent**, select the language settings, and choose the language your callers will use. Vida supports English and Spanish language options as well as a multilingual mode for conversations that may move between supported languages.

Use a specific language when most conversations stay in one language. Use multilingual mode only when callers genuinely need to switch languages during a conversation.

## Match the voice and speech mode

Not every voice is available for every language or speech mode. Choose the language first, then select a compatible [voice](/docs/agents/voice). The Agent editor shows the choices available for the current configuration.

## Test with real speakers

Before publishing:

1. Test with the accent and vocabulary your callers are likely to use.
2. Include names, addresses, numbers, and industry-specific terms.
3. Confirm the Agent responds in the intended language instead of merely understanding it.
4. Test language switching if multilingual mode is enabled.
